High praise for Mascarello and La Zerba

02 May 2012

We are pleased to announce that both Mascarello and La Zerba have recieved recent critical acclaim for their wines from two highly respected sources.

Macsarello Barolo

In a classification of the '100 Best Wines in the World' the “ENCICLOPEDIA DEL VINO” (WINE ENCYCLOPAEDIA - published in Italy by Dalai Editore) has ranked Mascarello's 2003 Ca d'Morrissio Barolo Riserva in 19th place.

This gives it the top Italian ranking in the list, out of the 23 wines included.

The encyclopaedia also makes a special note of listing Giuseppe Mascarello II as being among the “patriarchs” of Barolo.

... Quite rightly !!

La Zerba Gavi

We are delighted with the news that La Zerba Gavi di Tassarolo ‘Terrarossa’ DOCG 2010 has been awarded an amazing 90 points by Robert Parkers’ Wine Spectator. This makes it the highest rated Gavi reviewed from the 2010 vintage -  a fabulous result and we congratulate all involved in producing a wonderful wine.

Even better though, is the fact that this score gives it the second highest rating in the Wine Spectator EVER awarded to a Gavi - from any vintage !

This is an incredible achievement and we are very proud to represent La Zerba Gavi in the U.K

Looking forward to DITT 2012

02 May 2012

We are pleased and excited to be exhibiting again at this years DITT (Definitive Italian Trade Tasting). This trade event goes from strenght to stregnth thanks to the hard work of organisers Tina Coady and Jane Hunt MW. Held once again at the impressive Lords Cricket ground, this year on the 18th June, the event is the largest Italian trade event in the UK, and is well attended by trade proffesionals and the wine writing press.

We have booked our place to showcase a selection of wines from our range, giving excellent exposure of these to potential buyers and press reporters.

Last year Phil Harris headed our stand with support from Maria and Ian for a successful outing. We were lucky to have the company of Lisa Gilbee who flew over from her estate 'Stella Morella' in sunny southern Puglia. The English weather welcomed her with lashings of rain unfortunatley but this didn't dampen her spirits. Her Primitivo wines went down a storm, surprising tasters with thier excellent acidity and balance.

We look forward to once again showcasing the brilliance and diversity which Italy can achieve.

DITT 2011

'Winetraders chosen as a finalist at IWC Merchant Awards 2011'...

12 September 2011

Winetraders is delighted to announce that we were a finalist at the 2011 International Wine Challenge Merchant of the Year Awards.  Both Michael Palij MW, Managing Director and Phil Harris, Key Account Manager, attended the annual awards dinner, held this year at the Hilton Park Lane.  Having first slaked their thirst in Trader Vic’s Winetraders’ intrepid ambassadors were in fine form to brave both a volley of award-winning wines and a menu in which meat was conspicuous by its absence.  Nonetheless it was a fine affair with much merriment, general bonhomie, and catching up with old friends.  This was our first nomination by the IWC and merchants are assessed on a variety of criteria including variety and quality of their wine, customer service, innovation and future strategy.  We believe our emphasis on working with passionate producers and promoting unusual and traditional styles has helped us to achieve this recognition.
